No Sand Castle here thank you!!
Click Image to enlargeThe morning began with the loud roar of a truck engine next to my bedroom window as the crew of 9-10 began to arrive at 5:30 am. In a blink of my sleepy eyes the building site was washed in bright white headlights and 25 dark silhoutted figures were swarming outside and inside the perimeter of the building pad. Within a few minutes two concrete trucks were lined up ready for action. One truck pulls in the other stands ready. A third one arrived within seconds and they lined up exact distances apart as if in a well rehersed play.
First truck begins it's dump and 10 people spring into simultaneous action, each with a different task. As the first truck empties and moves to the clean up area the second truck pulls in as the second truck begins it's dump, out on the horizon, truck number four arrives and takes it's place in the waiting line. Truck two finished, moves in line with number one to begin cleaning. Number three moves into position, and so on and so on revolving like the precision movements of a fine jeweled gold watch . Arrival and depature with split second precision.
All in all 9 truck loads poured 91 cubic yards of concrete within 5 hours. By the time the last truck emptied it's cargo onto the front porch the first concrete poured and most of the rest was hard enough for walking and was being finished by workers that had suddenly morphed into a machine running finishing crew.
The precision actions of 10 independent workers each with a different task to complete was astonishing as very few words were spoken. This silent precise orchestration of rubber booted men ankle deep in hardening concrete ,working in absolute synchronization non stop as the hardening concrete without mercy seems to be just a boot step behind, is an event everyone should experience.
This work went non stop for 7 Hours.
A short break for lunch and it was back to work until 7:30PM.
Graded, brushed, polished, leveled controlled, swept, cleaned and inspected and finally two coats of sealer was applied, one for fast curing and the final coat for sealing and finished curing.
The celebration which is typical after a pour, begins. Beer and Pizza flowed almost as fast as the concrete.
It is now 8:30 PM and Darkness begins to fall
The crew silently begins to disappear one by one until only the Boss and one tireless man remain to load the machinery and do the final clean up of the site.
As I wave good by I notice a strangely quite empty gleaming concrete pad.
As the setting sun reflects off it's surface I realize............
********************The concrete foundation is Flawless!!!! ***********************
Thanks Guys. Thanks for the extraordinary job!!!!
