More does and don'ts
Click Image to enlarge1. Don't*** let your designer, contractor or builder tell you that control joints in the foundation are not needed!
Some building codes do not require control joints.
Control Joints should be soft cut into the fresh poured concrete slab within 12 Hours of the pour.
All concrete WILL crack. The control joint allows the concrete to crack along a controlled line. If you don't have a controlled line then your foundation will soon resemble a jig saw puzzle of cracks and lines!!
2. DO ***Be smart STAY IN CONTROL. Insist on soft cut control joints even on your outside porch and patio if you use concrete.
