Healthy Home Flooring

DRIcore - This Home is an ideal setting to showcase the benefits of DRIcoreĀ®, the modular subfloor for use over concrete. Like most homes in the warm, humid south, this Home is built on a concrete slab.

Because DRIcore will be used as a subfloor over the concrete throughout the home, visitors will experience how DRIcore creates more comfortable floors. DRIcore is a simple solution designed for use in homes built on slabs, and in basements, too.

The DRIcore system consists of 2' x 2' engineered wood panels bonded to a rigid, moisture-resistant polyethylene sheet with raised "cleats." The cleats on the underside of the panel lift the finished floor off of the concrete, creating an airspace -- or thermal break -- between the cold concrete and finished floor. Because DRIcore is a wood product, it has a subtle resilience that is more comfortable for walking or standing.

DRIcore is also an integral component in OUR moisture management plan that will create a healthy and comfortable home. Air circulates in the space under the DRIcore panels, which allows the concrete to breathe and helps to dry up condensation and prevent the growth of mold.

The tongue-and-groove DRIcore panels are press-fit together without nails or glue to form a floating floor that can be installed in less than half the time of a conventional subfloor. Carpet, vinyl sheets or tiles, laminates and engineered hardwood all may also be installed over DRIcore.

We plan on installing a traditional 3/4" 5 1/2" wide tongue and groove Patagonian Rosewood hardwood floor over the Dri-core.

In addition to the Dri-core we will be installing 1/2" plywood over the Dri-core and then a layer of Rosin paper.

Because we will be using nail down flooring (not floating or glued) the Dri-core will be fastened to the concrete on every 4th panel on every other row.

Stay tuned for specific details on the installation.
